Corner View--Monkey Business

Corner View is a weekly appointment with bloggers around the world. Thanks to Francesca, host; Jane, founder; and Dana for this week theme.
This week's theme is "animal".

It was lucky the day I went to see the monkeys, a mother had just given birth and her baby was still attached by the umbilical chord.  The guide who usually keeps the people chained off and separated from the monkey's main area, even took the chain off and invited us in to see the mother and baby close  up in their first hours together.  It was a small group of on-lookers that day, and the mother monkey seemed so engrossed in cuddling her baby that she didn't seem to mind us.

Sashiko won the election
Then it was 12:30 and feeding time.  We (the people) were asked to resume watching from our place beyond the chains.  The guide told us we could make ourselves into a human chain for the monkeys to pass through by standing with our legs open, feet touching the feet next to us, so the monkeys could enter the feeding area through the space between our legs.  We were told that it was lucky if a monkey passed through our legs.  Once the 12:30 bell was rang, the monkeys came running up for their feeding time.  And as the guide said, they passed right through our legs. It was so gentle, they just passed through first a small one then a bigger one, and then I could feel the movement of hoards of monkeys passing through my legs!!!  Kind of wild..um..am I really telling this on my blog?! but really, it was perfectly respectable...Monkey Mountain is one of Oita's famous tourist attractions, and on the day I was there, there was even  an election was in progress.  Actually the reason I was there is that my daughter asked me to go and vote for her favorite monkey who was named after her favorite idol and who was running against the established idol monkey.  Okay this is beginning to sound like something out of a hard-boiled Murakami novel reminding us.... we are all animals in this story after all!

Happy Corner Viewing!  Happy Week!

That first shot with the mother nd baby is so touching. You are quite blessed to have witnessed it.
What an incredible experience and I liked how you told the story---quite humorous--brought a smile to this English teacher's face. :>)
